About Converse

Converse was founded in 1908 by Marquis Mills in Massachusetts. By 1910 they were making 4,000 pairs a day in rubber-soled shoes. By 1915, tennis shoe manufacturing began. The company began producing shoes for the New York Renaissance, the first African American basketball team, and during World War II supplied the U.S. Army with shoes and clothing. Converse in 2001 was forced into bankruptcy after being beaten by competition. But in 2003 they were bought by Nike and became a favorite choice of NBA players and several celebrities. The beloved canvas came out in both leather shoes and shoes made from sustainable materials. Today Converse sells clothing, shoes and accessories for young and old alike.
