About Nike
The history of Nike goes back to 1964, when Phil Knight, a track and field athlete, and his coach, Bill Bowerman, founded Blue Ribbon Sports. Their original idea was to import affordable sneakers from Japan. In 1971, the company changed its name to Nike, inspired by the goddess of victory in Greek mythology, and introduced the iconic "Swoosh" logo, designed by Carolyn Davidson. Nike quickly gained a reputation for innovation and product quality, launching its first shoe with the distinctive swoosh in 1978. In the 1980s, Nike enjoyed huge success with its Air Jordan shoe line, partnering with basketball legend Michael Jordan. Today, Nike is a global leader in sports apparel and footwear, known for the innovation, technology and style of its products.
